Amsterdam Light Festival
This winter the Amsterdam canals will literally be in the spotlights. Famous buildings, bridges, canals and boats will be illuminated by hundreds of lights.
There will be a walking tour along many pieces of light art, a boulevard of light and a Christmas Canal Parade. This is a real attraction in the dark winter nights.

"We took the studio apartment for 4 days and it really was quite something else .highly recommend this place I cannot praise it enough I am a world traveller I have never seen anything quite like just perfect...Well Done!!!... the owners were lovely we were offered a coffee/tea on arrival with a special touch of some homemade truffles, the owners had emailed advising they would pre authorise the credit card 7 days before arrival which was fine we paid by cash on arrival. Bjorn fully explained the registration, gave us a receipt and map, we left our luggage in the restaurant "La Pizzeria" as the room was not ready...We returned to find our luggage awaiting us in the apartment, Bijorn explained the kitchen area which has a oven, grill and microwave, dishwasher, sink, coffee machine, sandwich maker, kettle, gas hob, fully stocked mini bar, breakfast bar and 2 high bar stools, drawers full of pots & pans, crockery, glasses and cutlery, there is a roof terrace with table and chairs the apt also had a comfy bed, lovely dresser with hairdryer and umbrellas and a powerful shower the bathroom is tastefully tiled as is the apartment. We ordered a bottle of Prosecco to kick start our Anniversary everything was as booked no hidden extrasI ordered breakfast which was well presented with bread basket, preserves, cold meat & cheese, egg, delicious orange juice and I made my own coffee. We also booked a canal cruise - When leaving after the 4 days we were also able to store our luggage in the restaurant. The B&B has a pizzeria which I highly recommend the chicken pasta was amazing the best pizza my husband has ever tried the texture and taste hard to beat, wine was reasonable and served in carafe's friendly locals, full every night, it tells me everything I need to know. Remember and book when your making your room reservation you won't be disappointed. "

Amsterdam named world's second best city to visit by Lonely Planet. 'Lonely Planet’s annual list of the best cities to visit in 2013 has named Amsterdam as one of the top 10 best cities in the world. The Lonely Planet has put Amsterdam number two on its list of the 10 best cities to visit next year. San Francisco takes the top spot thanks to its hosting of the America’s Cup next year. In third place is the Indian city of Hyderabad. This city is known for its historical center. Derry/Londonderry and Beijing rounding out the top five. Amsterdam owes its second place after San Francisco probably because of the celebrations of the 400th anniversary of the Amsterdam canals next year. The reopening of the Rijksmuseum could also be a reason. The annual Lonely Planet lists are compiled based on the views of the company’s staff, writers and online community. Lonely Planet said that the choices are not based on where travellers are already going but rather are “our pick of where we believe travellers really should consider visiting in 2013.” Lonely Planet said that destinations make the list for a variety of reasons, including special events, recent developments or buzz, or that the destination is up-and-coming and worth visiting before the crowds get too big.' To visit Amsterdam you will need a place to sleep, so book your room for 2013 at B&B La Festa and get € 10,- discount per night by using the code "la festa" at www.bb-lafesta.com . It is located in the eastern harbour area, close to central station and not far from Jamie Oliver's restaurant Fifteen. The restaurant shares it's building with the famous club Panama. The interior is based on a Spanish market, hence the name "Mercat". The restaurant just opened in September and I haven't visited it myself yet, but it looks promising. http://www.mercat.nl (not in English (yet?)) |
